How to Build a Healthy House - Your Body

Imagine what it would be like if a construction contractor was building your house. For your house to be habitable and comfortable to live in, it must be properly constructed using the right materials and maintained on a continuous basis. As I was working through my customer thank you's today I ran upon a question about our germicide product. I thought I would share my answer with you...

"Can you help with the amount of your G product to water for foot fungus?"

I don't know if there is a "right" amount of mixture, but I can share with you what we used at our house when the boy's struggled with athlete's foot. I just mixed up 1 teaspoon per 16 oz. of water. We just used a spray bottle and they would squirt their feet when they came out of the shower.

The amount that is right for you Dad may be a little less or more depending on his foot sensivity or the severity of the fungus. It's best to do a little testing and adjust the amount that works for him. I heard people who soaked their feet in a solution, but my boy's never would take the time to do that. If soaking I would definitely have him wash his feet thoroughly after a soak.

We also have used a this (1t. to 16oz water) mixture of G to rid our dog of a skin like fungus. What we would do is wash them in all purpose H and then spray on the g mixture and let it set for 3 to 5 minutes then thoroughly rinse and re-wash with all purpose H to make sure to get any residue off.

I didn't tell my kids what I was doing. I only told them to write as neatly as they could. They printed their names on a sheet of paper. Then, I told them to hold up their papers while I wiped the table off with a Clorox wipe. As soon as it was dry enough, I had them put their papers down and write their names again. I was shocked!

My daughter's writing was visibly messier; instead of letters being tight and connected, they were loopy and crooked. My son was completely distracted by something while he was writing his name! (This is uncharacteristic of him. He has no attention difficulties.) When he realized that he was talking about something else, he stopped mid-sentence and said:"Wait, I'm supposed to be writing my name!" The next letter he wrote was upside-down (which my son had never done before). I took it to the next level and had my children move to another room where there were no Clorox fumes. They wrote their names again and proved that without being "under the influence" they could write just as neat as the first time. I could clearly see that the chemicals were affecting both writing ability and focus.

My children are home-schooled and we do chores every morning before school starts. Since they have direct exposure to cleaners, I was burdened by thoughts of how the cleaning chemicals were affecting them in other ways. Green Cleaners Make Oprah's "Favorites List"

I just finished watching the Oprah Show. All I can say is WOW wouldn't it have been great to be part of that audience are receive all of those "favorites" as gifts. As I look back over all the favorites I know that our "Green Cleaners" probably offer the best gift of all. No it wasn't the most expensive gift by far. The refrigator by LG (Living Good) was. Funny I have an LG brand cell phone and never knew what the acronum was till today.

The "Green Cleaners" in the Healthy Home basket might not have looked as appealing. I know if everyone who receives a basket will take those toxic chemicals they are currently using, get rid of them and start using the green cleaners they will see their health improve. Just think about it. If you had a choice between a new fancy refrigator or not developing respiratory illness that may cost you thousands of dollars over the next several years. I don't think there is anyone would would choose the fancy frig.

Why take Vitamins?

High fructose corn syrup. Bleached flour. Ingredients that can't be pronounced. Even fresh fruit...freshly picked apples lose vitamins by the hour. By the time fresh fruit gets to the store, sits on a shelf, is purchased, sits in the refrigerator, is cooked, and finally eaten, only a very small fraction of the nutritional value is left to be absorbed. The vital vitamins and minerals in the food supply today have been extremely diminished. Many nutritional experts agree that even if one were to eat 100% raw and organic fruits and vegetables, picked and eaten same-day straight from farmland, decades of farming has left large amounts of contracted land depleted.

You have to consume 8-12 times the amount of produce, in some cases, to absorb what much of the farmland contained decades ago. While 1 out of every 10,000 or so people even pick their own food, the rest of world relies on several-days to several-weeks old, processed, canned, previously cooked, etc. food to remain healthy. Even if one were to ignore literally thousands of reports on how diets today are poor, a third grader is able to make the stark observation that the majority of America and many parts of the world is obese.

Now that it has been clearly established that so many diets today are very nutritionally poor, identifying exactly what is missing and how to replenish just that is needed.

Everybody critically needs vitamins to work, grow, and develop properly, which makes them extremely important on a daily basis. But it doesn't stop there. The human body also requires vitamins to do many things, such as ward off disease, boost immune system response, and even improve overall moods!

When the skin gets a cut, the human body needs a good number of vitamins to clot. When one gets sick, the body requires a more than average amount of vitamins to help fight the virus (it is good to note here again that the typical diet does not even provide the average amount of vitamins needed on a daily basis).

Some vitamins even help produce energy throughout the body. People still feeling tired regardless of making good efforts to eat all the right things may very well be not consuming the appropriate amount vitamins. When this happens, there is a very high chance the body isn't getting the vitamins needed to convert what is being eaten into energy. Vitamins are even involved in making sure objects are seen in color. Calcium, as so many have thought was an end-all solution to osteoporosis and calcium deficiencies does not work optimally unless sufficient amounts of Vitamin D are provided!

Most people don't realize just how extremely critical vitamins are. If the body doesn't get the vitamins it needs (read on to see why 100% of the US RDA is just a fraction of what you need each day), there is much improvement needed for a healthy living! For starters, vitamins regulate reactions that occur in metabolism, unlike other dietary components known as macronutrients (fats, carbohydrates, proteins).

One can consume all the right amounts of these fats, carbohydrates, and proteins, get all the exercise needed, but unless there also are very adequate amounts of vitamins in the body to regulate how these macronutrients are used, benefits achieved will be slim to none! To repeat, a very adequate amount of vitamins are needed to get the benefits of exercise and macronutrients. Absence of just a single vitamin blocks one or more specific metabolic reactions in a cell and eventually may disrupt the metabolic balance within a cell and in our entire body.

With the exception of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), all of the water-soluble vitamins (meaning vitamins that need to be replenished each and every day because they are flushed out) assist enzymes that function in energy transfer/metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. In other words, it is extremely difficult for our bodies to break down these nutrients into energy we can use without vitamins. these vitamins are scarcely found in the foods of the typical diet. Supplemenatation is needed!

A good question you can generally ask yourself...

"How many times have I gotten sick in the past five years? How long did my symptoms usually last? 3 days? 5 days? a week or more?" Chances are, many will answer: "a good number of times and at least 3-5 days or more" respectively.

Some of the fat-soluble vitamins (Vitamins A, D, E, K) help form skin and mucous membranes, which thus increases resistance to infections. Once fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K) are consumed, they are stored in the liver and fat tissues in the body until needed. Some are stored for a few days, some for up to six months. Not only do these fat-soluble vitamins help anti-infection defenses, they help keep night vision at its best. Individuals tending to go blind during the night may not be getting enough Vitamin A (retinol).

On the other hand, water-soluble vitamins such as Vitamin C and the B group of vitamins, are different. They are not stored nearly as much in the body. Instead, they travel through the bloodstream. Whatever the body doesn't use is released through urination. These kinds of vitamins need to be replaced often for that very reason.

Over the last week we had a turn of events happening that makes me so proud as a Mom to watch. Just one year ago on this blog I wrote about our son Adam graduation from college and how this may not have been possible if it wasn't for the Shaklee Distributor business we built together. This picture was taken of Adam last August at the Nashville Convention. Notice the "Star Achiver" wrist band. Believe me he would never have walked on stage to recieve that award! As a Shaklee Distributor they honor you wether you want to walk across stage or not...

It all started when one of Adam's friends asked if he wanted to purchase his truck. Where we live the Thanksgiving holiday is a time for all the " kids" to come home and spend time with their friends they grew up with. This same night 2 other people came up to Adam and asked about his Shaklee Distributor business. The next day I could tell Adam was in deep thought about what he was asked the night before. By that evening he was driving through the car dealership looking at new trucks. Over the next several days the whole family was involved with helping Adam shop for the best deal on a different truck.

Last night Adam pulls in the lane with his New 2008 Chevrolet 4 wheel drive Z71 extended cab truck. He was beaming from ear to ear and walking with an extra bounce. This is his dream truck he just purchased, it has all the bells and whistle's on it. One of the first things he said as he walked in the door was, "this wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for my Shaklee Distributor business."

One of the reason's I think he stressed so over this decision, he had a concern what others would think when he pulled into work with this new truck. No other employees where he works are driving "New Trucks." What sets Adam apart from all of those other employees is his Shaklee Distributor Business.

Adam is very different than many people you meet in MLM businesses. He is very shy until he gets to know you. Many of his friends only know about his Shaklee distributor business because they asked him about it. His business has been built strictly through online marketing. Adam has the extra income as a Shaklee Distributor to afford to live and get the extra's. Over the last year he has seen a steady increase in his income from his business.

Our company has an 80% re-order rate, that's almost un-heard of with most companies. As a Shaklee Director with a customer base you can earn and extra $1000 per month or $100,000 per year. Top 10 Kids' Worst Health Habits

Over the holiday's I've heard and seen some alarming stuff... like soda is the choice beverage, already overweight people hovering over food that should be considered poison to their already overweight body. These same people are having major health problems. Now I realize it's the holidays and most of us get out of our "normal" eating habits. I'm starting to realize many people no matter how well educated aren't educated at all in healthy nutrition.

I have found many won't make the change for their own health, but might if they knew the habits they have formed will have a huge impact on their future generations.

The health of today's children is in jeopardy. "In the last 10 years, diabetes in children has doubled; there's a growing obesity epidemic among children, and we're seeing heart disease start in children," says Joel Fuhrman, M.D., family physician in Flemington, N.J., and author "Eat for Health and "Disease-Proof Your Child."

The consequences are so dire, in fact, that health authorities are now predicting that this generation of children will be the first to have a shorter life span than their parents. So what habits are putting kids in jeopardy?

Fuhrman pulled together the 10 worst offenders but issues this warning: "Parents can't force children to do anything they aren't doing themselves, which is why parents also need to change their habits to become better role models."

1. Drinking soda
Soda is loaded with sugar (about 13 teaspoons per can) artificial sweeteners, caffeine and empty calories (about 150 in a regular soda). Plus, soda might displace healthy beverages like milk or water and cause tooth decay. Bottom line: Nix soda from your child's diet and replace it with water, milk and other healthy beverages.

2. Not exercising
Today's kids are leading inactive lifestyles, putting them at risk for cancer, diabetes, heart disease and osteoporosis.
Bottom line: Make physical activity as important for your kids as brushing their teeth. By instilling the exercise habit in them when they're young, they'll be more likely to stick with it as adults. Just remember that kids learn by example, so get active with them.

3. Eating processed and barbecued meats
Your kids might love baloney sandwiches and hamburgers, but processed and barbecued meats have been linked to cancer, especially colon cancer.
Bottom line: Steer your kids clear of this kind of meat, and instead, turn them on to more healthy, wholesome foods like fruits, veggies, beans, nuts and seeds.

4. Being overweight
While it might be vogue to be heavy -- roughly 16 percent of kids aged two to 19 are obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -- that extra weight could cause your child serious health problems, including diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
Bottom line: Clean up your diet, and your family will follow. Likewise, become a regular exerciser, and encourage your children to get more active.

5. Not eating enough fruits and veggies
Fruits and veggies are loaded with disease-fighting nutrients, which is why kids who don't eat enough are at greater risk for developing cancer and other chronic health conditions.
Bottom line: Make fruits and veggies the mainstay of meals, and your kids will easily get the servings they need. Check MyPyramid.gov to view fruit and veggie requirements for kids or try AOL Health's handy Veggie and Fruit Tracker to calculate daily requirements.

6. Too many hours in front of the TV
Watching TV and playing video games are sedentary activities that encourage snacking and often replace physical activity. TV viewing also exposes your kids to risky behaviors like smoking and drinking, which could influence them.
Bottom line: Limit your kids' use of the TV and computer. Children under two years old should not watch TV, while kids over two should be limited to no more than two hours of media time a day, per the American Academy of Pediatrics.

7. Noshing sugary treats and foods
Your kids might go gaga over treats, but they're nutrient-poor, calorie-laden foods. Most are also made with refined grains, which have been linked to cancer. Plus, the more your kids eat these, the more they could begin craving them, which could eventually boost their weight.
Bottom line: Limit sugar in your children's diet as much as possible. Ban sugary cereals, cookies and candy from your pantry. Then become a savvy label reader, looking for hidden sugars in everything from granola bars toketchup and even pasta sauces. To satisfy a sweet tooth, serve fruit as a dessert or a snack.

8. Eating fast food
"Fast food is for parents who don't care about their kids," Fuhrman says. By buying them fast food, you're giving them the lowest quality food, which adds calories, fat and little nutrition to their diets. The end result? You could wind up with an overweight, unhealthy child. Plus, if they're eating fried foods or food cooked at high temperatures, they're noshing cancer-causing compounds.
Bottom line: Boycott all fast food.

9. Not getting enough vitamin D
Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to dozens of health conditions, including rickets, osteoporosis, cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Sunshine is the best source of vitamin D, but most kids don't spend enough hours outside to get all they need. Plus, if you live in a northern climate, getting enough vitamin D in the winter can be impossible.
Bottom line: Make sure your child is getting 400 IU of vitamin D daily through a multivitamin and/or vitamin D supplement.

10. Filling up on food made with white flour
White flour has zero nutritional value, which is why Fuhrman believes it should be banned from foods. "White flour's been linked to obesity and cancer-causing cell development," he says.
Bottom line: Don't buy food made with white flour. Instead, choose 100 percent whole-grain products.

Please share this with others who may be struggling with autoimmune diseases, especially Sarcoidosis, an auto immune disease that, in my case, caused long bone (not joint) pain and most troubling, breathing difficulties. The disease caused calcium deposits called granulomas to stiffen my lungs, so constricted airways was not the trouble, it was inflamed lung tissue that did not want to expand as it should resulting in shortness of breath as well as coughing.
