The terms keyword is often used as shorthand for keyword phrase. When we use the term keyword, we mean the word—or words—that may be typed into a search engine by someone carrying out a search. In fact most searches these days are not single-word searches … most searchers now type two or more words in their searches.

Submitting to the Open Directory Project:

Yes, the Open Directory Project is free, and yes, you can submit much more quickly. But the problem is there's no guarantee that your site will be listed. I've seen sites get into the Open Directory Project within a week or two of submission, and I've seen others that waited months without ever getting in. In addition, the submission forms sometimes don't seem to work! But don't give up. As I mentioned earlier on that, the Open Directory Project is very important. Here's how to submit:

1. Read the editor's guidelines at dmoz.org/guidelines/describing. html. If you know what guidelines the editors use, you may be able to avoid problems. It's hard to get into the directory, so you might as well give yourself the best chance of getting in.

2. Go to www.dmoz.org. The Open Directory Project home page appears.

3. Find a suitable category for your site.

4. Click the Suggest URL link at the top of the page.

5. Follow the (fairly simple) directions. Submitting to the Open Directory Project is much easier than doing so to Yahoo! Directory.

You simply enter your home page's URL, a short title, a 25-30- word description for the site, and your e-mail address. That's it. Then you wait.

But understand that the editors at DMOZ don't care about your site, they care about the directory; in fact, read the DMOZ forums at www.resource-zone. com and you'll find that the attitude tends to be "tells us about your site, then go away and forget about it."

There are all sorts of factors working against you:

- There are 8,000 editors managing over 700,000 categories.

- Many small directories may only be reviewed by an editor every six months . . . or far less frequently.

The editors regard a six-month wait, or longer, not particularly excessive.

- In some cases editors may even ignore submissions. As one editor explained, "there is no obligation to review them in any order nor is there a requirement to review them as a priority . . . some editors find it more productive to seek out sites on their own and rarely visit the suggested sites."

The <Title> tag is the most important part of the page. It is the tag that visitors see in search results, and it should contain your targeted keywords. The title tag can make your page rank or make it disappear from search results. Use this format for web page title tags:

Keywords | Website Name or Brand

It's okay to include only your keywords without the site name, especially if you aren't branding using other Internet marketing methods.

Your <h1> tag is very important. As with the web page title, you should include your targeted keywords in this tag.

Your <h2> tag is next in importance. You should put keyword variations in this tag It's okay to be more natural here.

Your <h3> is less important, but still very useful. Promote keyword variations or subheadings using the H3 tag. You can relax a bit with this one and mention keywords only once in a while.

Now that we've talked about the title tags, let's briefly touch on links so you can see one aspect of why getting the keywords in your title tag is important. An incoming link to your pages is typically formed like so:

Link: <a href ="http://www.site.com/page.htm" title="keyword">anchor text keywords</a>

It's very important to include targeted keywords in anchor text in inbound links. You should also use targeted keywords in internal links, including navigation. The search engines take strong notice of keywords in these positions.

This is true for links that are followed. But what about links that are designated nofollow? Many blogs and other sites make any links in comments automatically nofollow.

Last time we talked about Worst SEO Mistakes, this time lets discuss Alt Tag Stuffing

ALT tags are designed for blind people. Alt tags should describe images, buttons, navigation and other site elements to make browsing easier for those who can't see. Some people stuff their keywords into ALT tags, in hopes of ranking better in search results. This doesn't work. If spotted, you'll be punished.

On top of being ineffective, it's a real hassle for blind people who have to listen to the BS webmasters stuff into these tags to manipulate search engines. Use alt tags for image descriptions, and don't worry about the keywords.

Comment Spam

There are several types of comment spam.

One type uses robots to put in generic BS comments and links back to their owner's site in hopes of getting more valuable inbound links. Google discovered this and doesn't count comment links anymore. Bloggers also use the nofollow tag, so it doesn't matter if there are links in comments.

Another way to spam comments is to leave generic comments like "I did an article about this too, come check it out" in hopes of driving traffic and subscriptions.

Blog comments are designed for discussion, so saying something useful without intent to get something back plays a lot better in the long term. You get respect and eventually the blogger becomes more interested in you. Then you get your link.

Forum Spam

Forum spam involves leaving forum messages disguised as editorials, but are nothing more than ads for a website.

This type of spam looks really nasty and irritates all forum users. Don't do it. If you want to drive visitors from forums, participate in discussions, offer advice and help everyone. You will gain respect and people will visit your site from the signature. This time however, instead of saying "who the hell is that guy?!" they will land on the home page wit the thought of "that guy is good, let's see what he's built here."

Reliance on Meta Tags

Meta tag's days are not over. Keyword meta tags do work. I would spend more than just a few minutes on keyword meta tags. The description meta tag, is very useful. It is the description that shows in search results, so make sure there are clear calls to action.

Submission to a Bunch of Social Media Sites

You've probably seen those one-vote articles sitting in no-man's-land with headlines like "New marketing methods" and "Super interactive website www.spamsite.com" Those are attempts by marketers to get diggs, reddits and other types of votes. What if you lost your job tomorrow?

Almost always, there is. And the moment you choose it, you're already moving quickly ahead.

Persist

When you're weary, it means you've been making a difference. Keep going and see it through. When each obstacle is more difficult than the one before, it means you're making real progress. Persist, and make it all count for something great.

The exhaustion you feel is preparing you for the sweet taste of accomplishment that is surely to come. Every effort you make serves to give that accomplishment more value and meaning.

Sure, the way is difficult, and by moving through each difficulty you're creating something that can never be taken away. Keep going, and enjoy the priceless reward of knowing you did it.

As the path become steeper, it means you're nearing the summit. Now is when it's especially important to keep climbing.

Your efforts have already brought you a long, long way. Persist, and enjoy the full rewards of your labor.

Your Vision

Follow that vision You can visualize anything you choose. Your imagination is yours to control as you wish. So make use of that powerful imagination to visualize the best of all possibilities for yourself and your world. You don't need any special resources, you don't need anyone's permission, and you don't even need to be realistic.

Simply go in your imagination to the place where you'd most like to be. Visualize all the details, all the richness, all the feelings of the experience.

Make it real in your mind, and you'll be well on your way to making it happen in your world. Visualize with the entirety of your being, and you set into motion a powerful momentum.

Visualize the most positive and desirable of alternatives. The more richly and intensely you see them, the more attainable they become.

Where there is vision, there is life and growth, accomplishment, fulfillment and joy. Visualize the very best for your world, and allow your life to follow that vision.

WATER

#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
(Likely applies to half the world population.)

#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak
that it is mistaken for hunger.

#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.

#4.   One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs
         for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
         Washington study.

#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

#6.    Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
          water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
          for up to 80% of sufferers.

#7.    A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
          memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
          the computer screen or on a printed page.

#8.   Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
         colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
         cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop
         bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water
         you should drink every day?

COKE

#1.    In many states the highway patrol carries
          two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
          the highway after a car accident.

#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
and it will be gone in two days.

#3.   To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
         toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour,
         then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
         stains from vitreous china.

#4.    To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
          Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
          Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

#5.   To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour
         a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
         away the corrosion.

#6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

#7.   To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
         the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.
         Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the
         drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

#8... To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke
          into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
          through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen
          grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your
          windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

#1.     the active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
          It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
          acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
          contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.

#2.   To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the
         commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place
         cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

#3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
engines of the trucks for about 20 years!

With every worry also comes the option to let it go. You can feel the worry, see it for what it is, and then choose to immediately walk away from it.

As soon as you do, your mind becomes vastly more clear and more focused. Your spirit experiences a glorious refreshment.

When your mind is filled with worry, just imagine how wonderful it would be to have that heavy burden lifted clean away. Imagine it, and then choose the simple act of doing it.

Choose to walk away from worry, and lift that burden from yourself. In a moment, your worry can be gone.

Breathe in the sweet, refreshing air of freedom, clarity and effectiveness. Walk away from worry, and walk forward with positive purpose.

With each act, your confidence grows. Take the first step and you'll gain the confidence to take the next step.

The more you do, the more you'll be able to do. Begin the journey, and you'll set in motion a positive momentum that can surely carry you through.

Effort feeds upon itself. Even though you start small, you can soon go very far.

Though you may not yet have what it takes to finish, you always have what it takes to begin. And from the most modest initial effort, magnificent results can surely and eventually flow.

It's extremely valuable when you're able to see the big picture, having risen far above the mundane details. Yet it is just as important to know and understand the nature of those details. And for that, there is nothing that can replace actual hands-on experience. Most endeavors benefit from a competent manager, and managers become competent through intimate familiarity with what they're managing. How can you direct someone to tend your garden if you're not regularly digging in the dirt yourself? How can you develop a successful customer service strategy if you're not regularly dealing with customer issues yourself? If you consider yourself to be above the details, then those details will very likely bring you down at some point. Certainly delegate when you can, but be sure you know what you're delegating. Modern life is complex, and no one can be expected to understand all of the intricate complexities. Yet by the same token, it is essential to grasp the fundamental details upon which your world depends. Be willing to get your hands dirty with the details of life. Let go of any expectations, judgments or analyses, and allow yourself to peacefully experience it all as it comes to you. We often get so caught up in planning, organizing, adjusting and responding that we end up with no time to simply experience and enjoy. I was having coffee with Billy the other day. He was grumbling about how hard he works. Too many hours at the office; too many miles on his car; too many nights in hotel rooms. He wasn't spending enough time with his family and, to make it worse, he wasn't making his sales or financial goals. He's tired, stressed, exhausted and frustrated. "There aren't any more hours in the day. What do I do?" He asked. This is a common complaint. I hear it all the time, from people asking about my Mentor.Trainer services. "I come in early, stay late, work weekends. And I still don't get everything done." For years we've been thinking time management. How can we best manage our time? But, maybe that's the wrong question. Try this one, instead: "How do I make my time count?" Think "leverage." A little bit of work (the right work) can generate a lot of results. Think about pulling a nail out of a piece of wood. The longer the handle on the hammer, the easier it is to get the nail out. Try pulling out a nail with a pair of pliers. Doesn't work very well. Wrong tool for the job. Lots of work. Minimal results. Sore fingers. You make your time count by finishing the right work: the tasks and other activities that generate results. Regret

Regret would be a wonderful thing if it came earlier. If you could feel the bitter sting of regret before making the choices that would cause that regret, you'd be powerfully persuaded to make better choices. The biggest regrets usually result from missed opportunities. Feeling those particular regrets early would encourage you to make the most of your possibilities. Yet in the real world, regret is experienced only after it's too late to avoid. Even so, there is something you can do to make regret a positive and powerful influence in your life. You can use your mind to imagine regret in advance. By doing so, you can benefit from regret's lessons without suffering from its pain. Before taking action, or before passing up an opportunity, travel in your mind into the future. Find the choice that would cause no regret, and then make that choice.
